“I really love anything odd...”

I work in The Studio at the Central Library as a Program Specialist for Teens. I read a lot of Young Adult fiction, Juvenile novels (okay, I read picture books, too!), and really love anything odd (fantasy, science fiction, horror, etc.). I also help run The Library Ninja Blog and manage our Teen Facebook and Twitter accounts.

AWESOME.... So I guess I will see you next week at your Creative Writing Class... Can't wait to show you my work:) So how was your Fourth of July weekend?
Hi Amy! What type of books do you like to read and why. Also, which types of books do you not really like to read and why. What I am really asking is what is your favorite genre and which one is your least favorite genre?
Sara! I am soooo sorry it took me forever to get to your question. My favorite things to read are speculative fiction, which basically means I like fantasy, science fiction, and horror. If it has something otherworldly or weird in it, chances are I will want to give it a try. I also read a lot of craft books (particularly crochet books), poetry, and funny stuff (Jack Handey, Robert Hamburger, Michael Showalter, Amy Sedaris, Janet Evanovich, Christopher Moore). I like to be taken to another world when I read, so I don't particularly enjoy memoirs. I also don't care for romance books. If there is romance in the fiction, that's fine, but I don't like it when that is all the book is about. I want some adventure and crazy stuff to happen!
Hey Amy. Did you know when you were a kid that you wanted to work around books?
Hey, Claryce! I just now saw this comment. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. When I was a kid, I was a voracious reader. My parents are big readers and my dad even used to recite poetry to us. I remember being excited when I could start reading street signs. I would annoy my parents by reading every single street sign to them! When I got older and started my own book collection, I had them all arranged in alphabetical order, sometimes even according to genre, and if one of my brothers wanted to borrow a book, I made them fill out a sheet to check the book out from my room! I honestly never thought I would work in a library. I went to school and got my degree in Creative Writing. I love to write. I worked at Barnes and Noble for years before applying to work at a library and, well, here I am a number of years later...still working in libraries! So...a very long answer to your short question. YES! Even when I was little I knew I always wanted to be around books. :)
