December 2011 - Celebrity Reads Poster - Donna Marshall-Knowles

The Arlington Public Library will display Celebrity Reads posters at the public libraries, senior and recreation centers and in AISD schools starting in February 2011. This year’s theme is focusing on environmental education. A different poster will be displayed every other month, focusing on six different local celebrities and their all-time favorite book.

Environmental Science Teacher

Donna Marshall-Knowles invests in the future by empowering youth to make a difference in environmental quality. The environmental science teacher at Juan Seguin High School also sponsors the campus's Environmental Club. The club, about 80 members strong, has started recycling programs for Seguin's paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles. They donate and care for plants at the school, and participate in community cleanups.
She shares the spotlight with Archie, her longtime companion and environmental education partner, who unfortunately passed away in May shortly after this picture was taken.
“Archie is a representative of why we need to preserve our wild spaces and avoid taking exotic species out of their natural habitat if at all possible,” she said.
For her READ poster, Knowles chose The Good Earth by Pearl Buck to represent our connection to the earth and the importance of a commitment to taking care of it for the future.
