Largest Corporate Donation for Renovations

The Arlington Public Library Foundation received its largest corporate donation recently for the renovation of the Lake Arlington Branch Library when Chesapeake Energy Corporation contributed $10,856 to the project.

Charles Davis of Chesapeake Energy presented the check on August 2 to Arlington Public Library Foundation Chair Joe Bruner during the monthly library board meeting.

Located at 4000 SW Green Oaks Blvd., the Lake Arlington Branch is near Lake Arlington and several Chesapeake padsites. Originally built in 1986, the library branch has undergone several changes over the past 25 years, from card catalog indexing to wireless internet access for patrons to use. Always an area favorite for readers, the branch is more popular than ever, especially for children, families and everyone interested in its literary treasures.

“The library is a crucial public service that deserves support from its neighbors,” said Davis. “That’s why Chesapeake is proud to make a donation in support of the renovation of this community gem. The knowledge gleaned from these books and the comfort the facility provides children and adults alike are immeasurable.”

As with any well-loved library over the years, there has been wear and tear on the building. Renovations will result in more usable floor space for books and public use throughout the 10,000-square-foot building. And the renovations will have a unique look in keeping with its special location.

“We’re going with an aquatic theme throughout the library because of our connection and proximity to Lake Arlington,” said Library Services Manager Debi Wood.

Returning library users will be greeted by aquatic blue carpet with swirl patterns, a 200-gallon freshwater aquarium featuring native Texas fish and plants, and aquatic artwork. Renovations will also include updated furniture, more computers and separate areas for teens and adult readers. Wi-Fi capabilities will get an upgrade and more electrical outlets will be added to support the increase of laptop computer use.

The library will be closed for the month of August and will re-open in early September. For more information, visit www.arlingtonlibrary.org.
