August 2011 - Celebrity Reads Poster - Heather Dowell

The Arlington Public Library will display Celebrity Reads posters at the public libraries, senior and recreation centers and in AISD schools starting in February 2011. This year’s theme is focusing on environmental education. A different poster will be displayed every other month, focusing on six different local celebrities and their all-time favorite book.
August
Heather Dowell, Urban Forestry and Land Manager, Arlington Parks and Recreation Department
"The reason I love this book so much is it is about truth. The book is about nature and what Aldo Leopold witnessed in it, happening to it and how sad the loss of it would be. This is what my life and my job is about...how can I help save it, can I live by the words of Aldo! I have a huge task in front of me and need to keep striving to be better and never give up. A quote from the book really sums it all up: 'Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free.'
To me the standard is not worth it, it is time to weigh the true environmental cost of everything we make and do. Most costs grow exponentially and are never even considered, please consider them and remember every little bit makes a difference!" —Heather Dowell
