Enhance early learning skills for students by continuing to offer The Learning Zone tutoring program for children in grades 1-3 and continuing support for Hope Tutoring programs for older children.

Increase opportunities for adults to raise literacy levels by implementing an adult literacy program utilizing volunteer tutors following the Laubach/Proliteracy curriculum. Offer the services of literacy “advisors” trained to match students to the program that will meet their needs.

Support family literacy development by providing a parent-child program for families with a child participant in The Learning Zone and with a parent participant in a community ESL program.

Assist junior high students in developing basic math, reading and information-finding skills through volunteer mentoring and tutoring programs conducted through the Northeast Branch Teen Zone program.

Build mutually beneficial relationships between literacy partners in Arlington

Enrich the offerings of existing literacy programs
in Arlington by providing supplementary materials in the Library’s circulating collection and connecting students to these resources through community outreach.

Reinforce skills developed in local literacy programs by providing Family Learning Labs at the East Arlington Branch and other community locations that include software and audiovisual materials to assist with all types of literacy—reading, financial, health, workforce, information, etc.

Build bridges between literacy programs by facilitating an Arlington Family Literacy Network for providers to network and coordinate programming with monthly meetings and an information database of Arlington providers and services.

Raise public awareness of literacy issues in Arlington and connect with our regional and state partners to enhance our resources
