GED at the Library

The GED is a test that measures the General Education Development of individuals who have not earned a high school diploma. Your GED will enable you to enter college or trade school, get a better job, or qualify for employment promotions.

You can take the GED test in Texas if you

  • Have a government (national or foreign) issued photo ID;
  • are 18 years of age;
  • are a resident of Texas;
  • are not enrolled in an accredited high school; and
  • are not a high school graduate.

Find a GED Testing Center.
If you already took the GED test in Texas, you can get a copy of your results from the Texas Education Agency.

BE CAREFUL if you consider taking an online diploma course. There are scams that ask you to pay hundreds of dollars and then give you a diploma that is not recognized by any colleges. Look for courses that say they will prepare you to take the test- not give you a diploma. You CANNOT take the GED test online- only at a certified testing center.
